CALL TO ACTION—No to HB4!

CTA: Oct 26, 2023

Very early Thursday morning, the Texas House approved three bills aimed at beefing up border security:

One that would appropriate more than $1 billion for additional border barriers;

One that would allow police officers to send back migrants to who cross the border illegally;

And one that will increase penalties for human smugglers.

All three bills drew strong Democratic opposition, but the most contentious debate was for House Bill 4, which empowers police officers to apprehend, arrest or send back migrants who, in their estimation, may have crossed the border illegally.

It could be up for a vote in the Senate as soon as today.

This bill is an unconstitutional overreach by the state into federal matters including violating basic rights under the constitution.

The legal fights over HB 4 will cost significant taxpayer dollars before it will ultimately be declared unconstitutional.

State Representative Erin Zwiener speaks to the critical need to oppose this bill immediately.
