Hays County Democratic Party Urges Citizens to Be Safe, Make Use of County Cooling Shelters During Extreme Heat

With the outside temperatures soaring into triple digits for the foreseeable future and the fragile Texas power grid struggling to keep up with demand, Hays County is providing relief to citizens in need. Should you need air conditioning, please seek out one of multiple options listed.

Two cooling shelters are currently open in San Marcos, as are all county and municipal buildings, libraries and senior centers countywide. In the event of a power outage, additional shelters across the county will be opened to take in those who need to escape the heat. See the list in the attached image.

Additionally, fan drives have been set up by San Marcos and by County Commissioner Michelle Cohen.

You may order fans for the San Marcos fan drive at https://a.co/3t5Z1c6 (be sure to select \”SMTX Utilities\’ Gift Registry Address” at checkout) or make a monetary gift at https://donate.stripe.com/5kA14feYU6Q4agU7ss. For more information, contact April Carvajal at [email protected].

To donate to the Commissioner Cohen Fan Drive, please drop off new or gently used box fans at Tobias Elementary between 9 & 11am on Saturday, June 24.

Hays Dems encourages all residents of Hays County to check in on any elderly or medically fragile family, friends and neighbors to ensure they are not exposed to these extreme temperatures and have adequate access to air-conditioned facilities.
