Q&A
What is your background and campaign platform?
Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe, a lifelong resident of San Marcos and Hays County, is keenly aware of issues affecting the residents of Precinct 1. Now more than ever we need proven leadership. During her tenure, Debbie has worked alongside our neighbors, elected officials and community organizers to improve infrastructure, expand access to affordable healthcare, reform our local criminal justice system and increase access to our democracy by advocating for more polling locations East of I-35.
When decisions of equitable pay come before the Commissioner’s Court, how will you determine how to cast your vote?
I have spent my tenure on the Commissioners Court working toward a community that is beneficial to everyone. Every time an item comes before court, including the topic of pay for employees, I take a holistic and comprehensive approach, to ensure everyone is served in an equitable manner.
What are the budgetary priorities for Hays County as you see them?
The budgetary priorities for Hays County include continuing to reform our criminal justice system, leveraging resources to provide the safety and mobility to those traveling our local and state highways, safeguarding our mental health and well-being, giving residents access to high quality, affordable healthcare, upholding election integrity and voting rights, protecting our environment and water resources, and providing a healthy and functional environment for our pets.
Hays Co is growing rapidly. What are some positives and negatives of this growth?
Due to the rapid growth of Hays County, we have seen the benefits of economic development, advancements in technology, and the expansion of workforce. Comparatively, we have also seen an increase in traffic congestion, a strain on our water resources, and added demands on our infrastructure.
What do you envision the county to look like in the coming 50yrs regarding the environment, infrastructure, housing, and water?
As one of the fastest growing counties in our nation, we have seen a growing demand to protect our environment and water resources, offer more affordable housing opportunities, and build upon our current infrastructure. I envision a safer and better place that serves to enrich and protect our quality of life for our families and future generations.
What Democratic values will you apply to your work once elected?
My democratic values are what guide me as an elected official and I firmly believe the economy should work for everyone, healthcare should be accessible and available to everyone, diverse communities are strong communities, full participation in our democracy is good for everyone, supporting criminal justice initiatives helps everyone and providing mental health services helps our communities.
