Q&A

What office are you seeking?
Judge, County Court at Law #3
What is your background and campaign platform?
I have served as the judge of Hays County Court at Law #3 since January 1, 2023. My husband and I have been married for 31 years and have raised 5 children, three of which have gone to school in Hays county. In addition to my law degree, I also have a Master's degree in Psychology and have experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor. This makes me uniquely qualified to serve as the judge of the Mental Health Court which is administered by the County Court at Law #3.
What Democratic values to you share/agree with the most?
I believe that everyone is entitled to be treated with respect and acceptance. I also believe it is important to have programs that promote criminal justice reform by providing access to treatment programs for those who have a mental illness or intellectual/developmental disability.
What Democratic values do you or would you apply to your work if elected?
As the judge of the Mental Health Court, my staff and I collaborate with community entities to provide opportunities for participants to receive housing support, mental health and substance abuse treatment. Anyone coming into my court is given an opportunity to be heard and is treated with respect and courtesy by me and my staff.
How do you handle making difficult decisions, especially ones with which you do not agree?
I make difficult decisions often as a judge. I listen to the arguments of attorneys and make a decision based upon the law and the facts presented. My decisions as a judge must be based upon the law as it exists at the time of my decision.
Will you support the Hays County Democratic Party by your presence at events and, if possible, financially? If not, please explain why.
Yes. I attend the Hays County Democratic events when I am able to do so. I am a member of the Hays County Democratic clubs and have supported the party through financial contributions and will continue that support.
Will you and your campaign participate in the Hays County Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign effort in 2024?
Yes.
